Footy Classified is Channel Nine's Monday night AFL talk show, covering the latest issues and topics after the weekend's footy. I was tasked with completely redesigning the show's opening titles for the launch of the 2018 season. These titles were to be updated each week to include headlines, photos, and video of the talking points to be covered in the episode, and consequently were required to be easily editable and quick to render.
In addition to giving Footy Classified a cleaner, more modern look, I also wanted to allude to the diversity of the modern media landscape and to include stylised representations of not just newspapers, but also online journalism, the mobile web, and social media. With the above technical constraints and my own stylistic ideas forming the only brief, I created a quick animatic to illustrate the concept to the producers of the show. From there I was able to continue to refine the look and movement of the piece, all the while keeping the variable nature of the content in mind to ensure ease of use for future episodes.
Once the final sequence was approved, I worked to re-structure the project to provide an easily adjusted toolkit template that could be handed over for the creation of future episode intros.
I’m here to help, so let’s team up and make something awesome.
